Total Absence Management for Leaders

Effective August 6, Advocate transitioned the administration of all Leaves of Absence and Disability claims to MetLife.

Here’s what this change means to:

Team Members

  • Team members are required to contact MetLife after notifying their manager/supervisor, to request new leaves of absence. Team members can either call MetLife or submit leave/disability requests through MetLife’s online system.
  • Team members and managers/supervisors will have access to MyBenefits via advocatebenefits.com  (advocatebenefits.com > Current Team Member Login > Leave of Absence) to track the status of all leave requests.
  • Team members will have mobile access to MyBenefits via MetLife’s app (App Store or Google Play) to track status of their leaves.
  • Team members will no longer be required to submit a Health Care Provider Return to Work Full Duty notice for full duty return to work. MetLife will work directly with team member and Provider to determine disability and ability to Return to Work.
  • Team members are required to report Intermittent FMLA absence to MetLife within two business days.

Managers

  • Team members and managers/supervisors will have access to MyBenefits via advocatebenefits.com  (advocatebenefits.com > Current Team Member Login > Leave of Absence) to track the status of all leave requests.
  • Communication on leave requests, status updates, return to work, etc. will come directly to managers/supervisors from MetLife via email.Managers can assign another user "surrogate access" to their Direct Reports.
  • Coming Soon:  Managers will no longer manage timecard coding during the elimination period for team members on disability leave. This responsibility will be being managed by the Disability Council. Managers will still be responsible for coding all other leave-related timecard entries other than for disability.

MetLife Administration

  • MetLife will gather and review all needed information from the team member and Advocate and will then make a decision regarding the appropriate leave or disability claim.
  • MetLife will provide ongoing communications about the status of a requested leave to the team member and manager/supervisor.

*Intermittent FMLA absences (scheduled or unscheduled) that are not reported to MetLife within two business days will not be approved and will be considered unexcused per Advocate’s Attendance Policy.
